Your mission as Solid Snake is to infiltrate Zanzibar Land and rescue kidnapped biologist Dr. Kio Marv. It's up to you to gather the information, weapons, and equipment you need to complete the mission.

1.

Select "Game Start" from the title screen, then select between "Original" or "Easy" difficulties to begin.

You lose life when struck by an enemy or bullet. When you run out of life, the game is over.

You start the game with nothing but a pack of cigarettes. More weapons and equipment can be found inside trucks and armories; it's up to you to find and acquire them. Some enemies may also drop items if you punch them.

Opening doors requires the correct card.

Use elevators to travel between building floors.

Your codec can give you a variety of information about the enemy and their stronghold, as well as other hints. The type and quality of intel you receive depends on who you're talking to. Make the most use of it you can.

7.

You can learn a wealth of information from the local Zanzibar Land children you run into. Hurting them will deplete your life gauge.

8.

Your class will go up after defeating certain bosses. Higher classes will extend your life bar and allow you to carry more items.
