What Do I Do If...?

...I KEEP DYING?

I want to restore my Life

Use a recovery item such as a ration.

I die before I have a chance to use a recovery item

Keep rations equipped in the bottom left corner to have Snake automatically use one when his Life Gauge drops to zero.

I don't have any recovery items

Crouch or lie down and stay still for a while. Snake's Life Gauge will slowly recover on its own.

...THE ENEMY KEEPS SPOTTING ME?

I can't tell where the enemy is

Use the Threat Ring, Baseline Map, and Solid Eye to stay aware of the enemy's position.

My Camo Index is low

Keep a low stance when moving around. Remain still after lying down or pressing against a wall to allow Snake's OctoCamo to automatically copy the color and texture of the surrounding area and make him tougher to spot. Whenever Snake enters or exits a building or area, use OctoCamo to blend in with the new scenery.

The noise I make gives me away

Enemies respond to sound as well as sight. Make sure Snake moves as quietly as possible when passing near an enemy.

...THE ENEMY IS BLOCKING THE WAY FORWARD?

I need to take out an enemy without being detected

Try one of these methods:

  • Sneak up quietly and use CQC to knock them out.
  • Have Metal Gear Mk. II knock them out with an electric shock.

I keep alerting other enemies

Try one of these methods:

  • Use a tranquilizer gun equipped with a suppressor and launch a First-Person Attack from a distance, or hide behind a wall and use a Jump-Out Shot.
  • Use a sniper rifle from a distance.
  • Knock the enemy out with CQC and carry them somewhere else, or grab the enemy and drag them away from other enemies before knocking them out.

I want to avoid combat altogether

Try one of these methods:

  • Knock on a nearby wall (press against the wall and press ) to lure the enemy, then slip around the other side.
  • Have Metal Gear Mk. II knock on a wall to lead the enemy away.
  • Equip an empty gun magazine as a weapon and throw it to distract the enemy.
  • Equip a published magazine as a weapon and place it to divert the attention of soldiers.

...I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO GO NEXT?

Look at the compass or baseline map in the upper right of the screen to see which direction Snake's objective (●) lies in. Or check the Map on the Pause Menu.

...I CAN'T GET PAST A LEDGE?

Press to make Snake climb ledges up to waist-height.

...I CAN'T GET PAST A GAP IN THE FLOOR?

Snake can jump over short gaps in the floor by rolling (press while running).

...I'M GETTING ATTACKED BY THE MILITIAS?

If Snake has a high enough reputation, the militias won't attack him. Try winning favor with them by giving away rations.

...I CAN'T TELL THE MILITIAS AND THE PMCS APART?

While you're still familiarizing yourself with how each looks, you can equip the Solid Eye to check the affiliation of soldiers in Snake's field of view.

  • PMC

  • MILITIA (Operator)

  • MILITIA

...I CAN'T USE THE WEAPONS I PICK UP?

Weapons must be equipped first. Open the Pause Menu and select "Weapons", then choose one to equip from the box on the right and press the confirmation button to add it to the box on the left.

...IT'S TOO DARK TO SEE?

In dark areas, try using the Solid Eye's night vision (NV) mode. Be careful, though: NV mode consumes a lot of battery power.

...THE CAMERA IS HARD TO CONTROL?

Select "Options" from the Pause Menu to change the camera controls.

...I WANT TO EARN MORE DREBIN POINTS?

The number of points earned for picking up a given weapon depends on the weapon's condition and its current battlefield value.

Row 1. Weapon Type
Row 2. (Drebin Points) x (Weapon Condition) x (Battlefield Rate)
Row 3. Ammo Obtained
